THE 69 EYES - BACK IN BLOOD

 SONG BY SONG BY BAZIE

At the very moment when we had extraordinary honor to talk to the lead guitarist of the legendary Finnish goth'n'rollers for Venia-Mag voting for the best in the last year on our portal was stil in progress. However, Bazie has shared with us his views on the album "Back In Blood" that is, thanks to your votes chosen as Venia-Mag' album of the year 2009!

The first song Back In Blood was actually the first song we wrote for the album, and we didn't have it as a title first, that came from record company guy because that song hold the whole album, Back in Blood is the whole lyrical theme what Jyrki wanted as concept lyrically. The album is like vampire rock and all these things but not so much musically so that ended up being a title track and the first one because it actually turned out pretty good.  That was the track No.1. We wanted to have very strong rock opener, really powerful track that is really different from what we have done before.

No.2 is We Own The Night. That was the song that we had made really many versions and actually the first one ended up on the record. We did it even more commercial version.  Matt Hyde wanted to change it back to more rock song so it was more pop before. That actually gonna be the third single, at least for Finland, for the radio. Actually, that song was made to be like a commercial stuff, just written like to be a single, a kind of different song from the other songs on the album, that's one of the songs that could have been on our second album, same kind of music that reminds me a lot on our second stuff, back in the 90ties.

Then Dead'n'Gone, that one is made to be a single, it's like same kind of more serious lyrics, music, maybe like Back In Blood or Dead Girls Are Easy but I'm really happy about how the video turned out, at least it had some kind of story, it was for fun.

Then the fourth the song, The Good, The Bad And The Undead. With that one also we tried to do something different, to concentrate more on a different kind of a drum beats, vocal beats so that's what our producer wanted to change. That is also kind of the song we haven't done before; it is a different style so that's why I say that song we haven't done before.

Then Kiss Me Undead, that was also like supposed to be a single track. With that song, like with the Dead'N'Gone, we wanted to do something new anyway, bringing back the old things but it's like a more complex musically that we usually do, we were trying to do it to experiment that way. I'm happy how it turned out.

Next one is Lips Of Blood. That was like really what our producer says, the sound we have, typical The 69 Eyes song. That is different kind of all the songs before on the album the one that linked us and the album to the past.

After that is Dead Girls Are Easy. That was a little bit, how you say, music style as Back In Blood so that's something you think about all the time when you have the album. It's like Side B, the opener. And then, they were more rock, harder, heavier stuff that we wanted to do on the album, Dead Girls Are Easy and Back In Blood. I think that little bit reminds on what we have done before, like Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams. So that's why I had in mind that song, Dead Girls Are Easy, starts with the drums. I still don't know about the lyrics what they mean. The thing that was good with Matt Hyde, there were. the chorus was the same but there were different lyrics and he pushed Jyrki to re-write lyrics. The same happened actually also with "Back In Blood" because he said: "This is English, but I don't get it." *everybody laughs* Yeah, but he is an American and he said: "Hey this actually makes no sense."  So that was actually the first time, but there were many songs that we needed to rewrite the lyrics in that way. When it's about vocal style we wanted for every song to be a little bit different. That's the one thing he said he wanted to change, vocals and the drums, they are not the same.

Night Watch was the last song written for the album. When we were writing the album we had five new songs and then we just decided to make the demos of those, and that was behind like from 3 or 4 new songs, the best among newest. So that was the last song, and Matt Hyde said it has to be on the album, it's another song that reminds on typical The 69 Eyes song, a really good one. We haven't played it live yet, but we will do it sometimes, because people have been asking for it. That was the one thing, some guys from the band said that it is too typical, but Matt Hyde had to have that song on the album. People will know where the song is coming from. That is the good one.

Some Kind Of Magick. In the whole album we had new stuff, new styles, first 6 - 5 - 4 songs and then in the end of the album is more like what we have in Some Kind Of Magick. For that one we actually did many versions in the studio, it came out good, but I don't know why it took so long. We had some difficulties with that song but now it sounds good when you don't remember all the difficulties. Yeah, that's another that I would say, not so typical but Gothic rock song.

After that is Hunger. I did that song in 2006. It was straight on the edge of the album. I recorded something like a melody and then the song. On this album we wanted to have less keyboards and that is song actually written that there were no guitars. *everybody laughs* That is the song that goes really good with piano, keyboards. melodies. Then we had vocals to record. That was one song that Matt Hyde did new chorus and that was also one song we rewrote the lyrics, added some new vocal ideas, and of course, we needed to put guitars there. *laughing*  That is different because usually you start some concept and then it's go in another way. I remember when we were doing Devils album, the idea was to have a little bit more simpler and not so orchestra as Paris Kills and that turned out to be like Sister Of Charity with really huge orchestra violins and strings, that is another way how it happen in the end. Ok, but Hunger is one of my favorite songs.  It is typical The 69 Eyes but anyways something different, something new.

Then Suspiria Snow White. That was also one thing that we rewrote the lyrics. We had another song and that was the last one when we had pre-production in Helsinki. We had couple of other songs there, one was too happy and we decided to put this because the album needs something like punk kind of thing. We had this song before, for the last album we had another version but it wasn't good. That was something when we did lyrics and vocals that it didn't work out. So we worked how to do the new version of it although it was actually the oldest song.

And Eternal, that reminds me of Star of Faith or Sister of Charity. That song was decided not to have more guitars and just let it be what it is. It's all about vocals.
