GAMMA RAY,
FREEDOM CALL, SECRET SPHERE
Zagreb, Bogaloo, 24.02.2010
Twenty years after the release of their first album, legendary German power metal band Gamma Ray finally came to play in Croatia and to promote their new album "To the Metal". They came with support of the bands Secret Sphere and Freedom Call.
Concert announced for 20:00, started 10 minutes after the announced time. In front of some hundred people, Italians came out on stage - Secret Sphere. They are together more than ten years, and they have 5 albums. Their sound is quite good, and on the narrow stage they gave their best in half an hour and they warmed up the audience with songs Evil or Divine, Stranger in Black, Legend .. . and then closed with Dance with the Devil, and announced Freedom Call and Gamma Ray.
Ten minutes before 21:00 - Freedom Call. Began to play with We are one in front of just few more audience that Italians had. My first impression was that their performance and crowd remain lukewarm, but I was wrong. With each song viewers was more and more, and the atmosphere starts to get better and better. United Alliance, Thunder God, Tears of Babylon ... The band was a great mood, and Chris Bay knows how to impress. At sound check he complained that it was hot, but against this burning incandescence and the fans who flooded Boogaloo he did not mind. Of course, band like that, like we, also.
Also played Hunting High And Low, Metal Invasion, Warriors, Land of Light and as the last - Freedom Call. It was perfect, great sound, excellent for welcoming Gamma Ray. Because in the beginning of their performance was not as people as at the end was, is probably our assumption that the concert will be delayed, and we have long been used to that. It is time to change habits!
Welcome ... each other in a well-filled Boogaloou. The band is already at the very beginning given the knowledge that they are phenomenal and one and only. From drummer Daniel Zimmermann, through Richter, Schlächter to the charismatic Kai Hansen. Excellent performance and sound. Played the Gardens of the Sinner, New World Order, Empathy, Deadlands, Fight, Mother Angel, No Need to Cry, The Savior, Abyss Of The Void, then followed Daniel's solo, followed by Armageddon, perfectly accepted To the Metal and Rebellion in Dreamland, and Man on a Mission. The culmination was followed by the I Want Out, and Send me a sign, and thus came the end.
Two hours of fabulous performances went ahead quickly in front of colorful audience. From those who follow the Gamma Ray from the beginning until the younger ones, who were not even born when the band formed. All praise to everyone!
