THE 69 EYES - GOTH'N'ROLL
(Gaga Goodies/Poko Records/EMI Finland/Nuclear Blast)
When we go back in time when The 69 Eyes originally released their albums "Blessed Be" and "Paris Kills" we go back in time of black-haired girls holding a bottle of red wine and a black rose in their hands but in spite of this pretty much cliché picture The 69 Eyes always in their expression brings something unexpected, a dose of excitement that in end of the day compel us to leave all masks behind and be what we really are - creatures of the night.
The 69 Eyes were never afraid to disagree with "trend" and exactly because they never accepted compromises they earned their place on the underground gothic scene. The proof of that is also recently released box-set "Goth'N'Roll" for the first time in Europe exclusive presented as a part of this years Twilight Halloween Party in the club Boogaloo in Zagreb right on Halloween, the day that significant to gothic population. This special release brings re-mastered albums "Blessed Be" and "Paris Kills" considered as cult for a long time, the same way cult DVD "Helsinki Vampires" with additional documentary "Bat Habit" that, unfortunately, arrives without sub-titles so you can understand it only if you have some Finnish knowledge (which is the only reproach to this release) and very special spice is a CD called "Goth'N'Roll Archives" that brings some very interesting demo moments from the era of two mentioned albums like two versions of one of the most known The 69 Eyes songs "Gothic Girl", unreleased before "Shoot You Down", two The Doors covers - "You're Lost Little Girl" and "Riders On The Storm" and also some works presented on before released singles. And songs like "Brandon Lee" or "Betty Blue" combined with bands sense for details in the image the present, which proves accurately chosen design of the box and impressive graphic solution of following booklet, offer necessary dose of all influences that developed this band from garage-rock band of Helsinki' underground scene into the leaders of European vision of "Goth'N'Roll". So then, let's dance "into the serious moonlight"!
